Eagles Sweep the Ferrum Panthers

Bridgewater Volleyball Attack their Eighteenth Game of the Year

Bridgewater, V.A. –  Bridgewater College’s volleyball team took their second win of the day against Ferrum after defeating the Washington and Lee Generals earlier in the day on Saturday, Sept. 28.

As number one in their conference, the Eagles earned a 3-0 win against the Generals and ended up finishing the day off with another straight set against the Panthers. All three teams compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Ferrum started off the first set with a strong kill by freshman outside hitter Molly Patterson followed by another point scored by junior opposite hitter Chemaiya Jordan. The Eagles came back fast, winning the first set and only letting the Panthers score fourteen points.

Number third in ODAC for kills senior outside hitter Rachel Gaston had six kills in the first set helping the Eagles with their 25-14 set win. 

The Panthers started off strong again in the second set until junior middle hitter Lindsay Olzawski had a kill  to tie up the set and give the Eagles momentum to finish out the set, 25-16.

Set two held the Panthers to a -0.108 hitting percentage. The Eagles broke another tie in the second set with an ace by sophomore middle hitter Nadia Valle which pushed them to stay in the lead the rest of the set.

Bridgewater Eagles Athletics

The Panthers held the lead at the beginning of the third set, but lost momentum in the middle and failed to stop the Eagles who won, 25-21.

Bridgewater freshman middle hitter Sarah Kerns had three kills in the second set and the match high of seven kills. Bridgewater had a total of 38 kills in the match while Ferrum only had 18.

Undefeated in their conference, Bridgewater climbs to 17-1 making this year the best start in program history since the 2002 season. The Eagles face their rival across town at Eastern Mennonite on Oct. 9th, at 7 p.m.
