Among many possibilities for visiting Bridgewater College, the Admissions Office now has a virtual tour where student ambassadors show prospective students around campus via Zoom.

Bridgewater Va. – On Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, the Admissions Office launched their first ambassador-led virtual campus tour of Bridgewater College for prospective students.

The virtual campus tour is a Zoom call in which two student ambassadors walk around campus with a tablet as though they were giving in-person tours.

Last Friday’s tour “went very well, given the circumstances,” said senior Jake Smith, one of two student ambassadors leading the tour.

“It was very interesting because right when the tour began it started raining, so they had to run around with an umbrella until it stopped raining,” said Assistant Director of Admissions-Campus Visits Dayton Carpenter.

“It’s good that we’re doing this because we are learning how to adjust to doing things virtually. Especially because all the events we’re going to have might still have some virtual aspect to it,” said Smith. “And, of course, to make sure we give prospective students an experience of BC that’s worth the while.”

Until July, the admissions office only allowed virtual appointments for prospective students. In-person visits have since opened back up, with a few adjustments.

Prospective students and their parents are to wait in their car until it is time for their appointment, at which point they will call a number given to them by the admissions office. A student ambassador or admissions counselor will meet them there and begin the tour.

While in-person tours are allowed, there are still a lot of virtual opportunities for prospective students to check out BC.

“We have been talking to people from all different states, who we probably wouldn’t have been able to talk to in any other way,” said Carpenter.
