Bridgewater, Va. – Bridgewater hosted Southern Virginia last Saturday as both teams entered the week unbeaten. BC kept the title as it secured a dominant 40-6 win.

The Eagles dominated from opening kickoff when senior Jarrod Denham returned the ball 94 yards to give the Eagles a quick 7-0 lead.

Halfway through the first quarter the game was delayed due to lightning in the area, and all fans and players were asked to leave the field. The game was halted for just under two hours.

Once the game resumed it seemed that Southern Virginia began to get things going, but the Eagles defense held them to a field goal.

At the start of the second quarter, on what appeared to be an unlikely third-and-17, junior running back Demetreus Jelepes caught a screen pass and was able to make several Southern Virginia defenders miss on his way to a 70 yard touchdown.

On the following drive by Bridgewater, senior tight end Grant Monson was able to haul in a 19 yard Touchdown giving Bridgewater a commanding 26-3 lead.

The struggles didn’t stop there for Southern Virginia as a high snap on a punt would give Bridgewater the ball on Southern Virginia’s three yard line, which would lead to an easy second touchdown for Jalepes, right before the half.

After the half, the Bridgewater defense continued to punish Southern Virginia, with an interception by junior Da’Sean Davis on the opening drive.

Senior quarterback Jay Scroggins would then find Denham in the back corner of the endzone, giving Scroggins his third touchdown on the day.

Bridgewater’s defense showed they are a force to be reckoned with as they held the only other previously unbeaten Southern Virginia offense to six points.

Bridgewater’s record is 4-0. Their next game is against Hampden-Sydney on Oct. 12.
