Family Weekend Brings Eagles Good Luck

Bridgewater Sports Have a Successful Week

Bridgewater, Va. – The Bridgewater College Eagles had an eventful weekend starting Tuesday, Sept. 24. Multiple winning games were held leading up tor family weekend. Games were hosted at Bridgewater starting with Women’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball and Football to end the weekend. 

Women’s Soccer played two games this week, beginning with Roanoke on Tuesday, Sept. 24. The Eagles played a tough 90 minute match that resulted in a tie of 0-0. The Eagles then played Randolph Macon on Saturday, Sept. 28. The match resulted in a loss for the Eagles, due to a Yellow Jacket scoring in the 87th minute making it 1-0. This was an important game for both teams being the conference opener for both. The Eagles are now 3-4-2 and 0-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), but will be on the road next weekend against Lynchburg to keep fighting.  

Volleyball played a double header on Saturday, Sept. 28. The Eagles played Washington and Lee followed by Ferrum. Eagles dominated both teams with a score of 3-0 at the end of both games. Game leaders against Ferrum consisted of Sarah Kerns, Jessica Bissmeyer and Lindsay Olzawski. Game leaders for the game against Washington and Lee consisted of Rachel Gaston, Emily Hanger and Taylor McNeely. Volleyball is now 17-1 and will continue their battle at Eastern Mennonite on Oct. 9.  

Football played Southern Virginia University on Saturday, Sept. 28. Southern Virginia was one of the two undefeated teams in the ODAC until the Eagles beat them 40-6. Bridgewater scored on the first play in the first and second quarter of the game.  The Eagles are now the only unbeaten team in the ODAC with standings 4-0, 1-0. The Eagles have an upcoming bye week but will be playing Hampden Sydney on Oct. 12.
