Bridgewater, Va. On Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, Bridgewater College freshman Joshua Robert Olshaw died in a car accident in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Joshua, 17, was a member of the Men’s Lacrosse team at Bridgewater.

Bridgewater students and staff were notified in an email from President David Bushman on Oct. 25. The college opened the Carter Center Stone Prayer Chapel on Monday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. “for those who wish to reflect, pray and light a candle for Joshua.” A service was held that night at 8 p.m.

Although the service was short, the Men’s Lacrosse team showed great support for their teammate. The phrase, “We lost a brother,” was spoken by several in attendance.

The men arrived to the service as a team, stayed 45 minutes in the chapel after the service to reflect, mourn, and be together, and exited as a team. Once outside the chapel, a speech was given by the team captain about sticking together, being there for one another and being there for those who knew Joshua.

Joshua graduated in June from South River High School in Edgewater, Md. where he also played lacrosse. Josh was a business administration major.

A viewing will be held Friday, Oct. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a funeral service Saturday, Oct. 31 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 4012 Birdsville Rd., Davidsonville, Md. 21035.

Joshua’s time at Bridgewater may have been short, but he will not be forgotten. He will be dearly missed by all those in the Bridgewater community.
