Predictions for the Upcoming Season

Bridgewater, VA- Senior Sanni Gargano is the Bridgewater men’s lacrosse starting defensive midfielder, from Broadneck Maryland.

When asked how the team was looking so far this season Gargano stated,“I think we look pretty good, I’m pretty excited we only graduated six impact players, so I think we have a bright future this year.”

Gargano also feels that “We have a nice sophomore goalie who learned a lot from Hunter Bagby last year. He’s gotten a lot of reps, because we only have one goalie; our other one is injured.” He was referring to freshman goalie Noah Ross who tore his ACL in fall ball.

Gargano believes that “our offense pretty much stayed the same we lost a big attackman, but other than that I think we are in good shape.”

In regard to team chemistry, Gargano responded “Good – it was weird at first because we brought on so many kids. I think there’s 15 freshman; they all fit in really well they are a great group of kids who have great attitudes. We mesh very well together.”

Gargano revealed improvements that team can focus on. Those improvements are “fundamentals in general – passing, catching, hitting the wall,” said Gargano.

Last year, Bridgewater College upset Hampden-Sydney 14-13 at home late in the fourth, which brought the program to their first victory over a top four ODAC team.

When asked how they plan to build off that big win this season Gargano  responded “We have a tough stretch of games in March. We play three games in four days. We have Washington Lee and Randolph Macon at home on Wednesday and Friday. Hopefully, we get out of there with two wins – that would be huge for the program.”

Gargano revealed that the main goals for this season are to “Do better than we did last year, get another quality win against the top four teams and make it another round farther in the tournament.”

The Eagles first game is Feb. 26 at home. They play Mary Washington and plan to start their season off with a win.
