Bridgewater, Va.- Sugar & Bean is a new cafe that is opening in Bridgewater later this month. The cafe will offer both sit down and drive-up options.

Heather Benin, the owner of Sugar & Bean, said they are hoping to open in about two weeks. The cafe is located at 318 North Main Street in Bridgewater. The hours of operation for Sugar & Bean will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

The cafe will serve sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, smoothies and baked treats Benin said through Facebook.

Customers can come inside or utilize the drive-up option that the cafe will have. There is a parking lot behind the building and at each parking space there will be signs with information about food ordering and menu options. The customer will be able to call or text their order in on a dedicated order line, and their food will be brought out to them.

Benin said she started the business when Bridgewater opened the farmers market at Generations Park a few years ago, which is no longer in operation.

After the closing, Sugar & Bean expanded to operating at the Harrisonburg Farmers Market in 2015 and will continue to operate there as well, said Benin.

“I live in Bridgewater and wanted to be a part of that market. I enjoyed it and decided to expand to the Harrisonburg farmers market. The business eventually got too big for my home kitchen so I decided to look elsewhere to bake,” said Benin.

She also said that a good friend made a comment that, “the little brick house at 318 would make a nice spot for Sugar & Bean to grow into a cafe.”

“It turns out she was right! I also thought it would be good for Bridgewater to have a place where people could grab good food to go or to eat and stay a while,” Benin said.
