Bridgewater, Va. – Bridgewater College junior linebacker Brett Tharp was named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in Saturday’s defeat of Shenandoah University.

The West Virginia native played in all 11 of the games during last year’s ODAC championship season.

Tharp tallied a team high of nine tackles on Saturday, along with a key tackle early in the fourth quarter that forced a quick three-and-out for Shenandoah.

Tharp also added a pass break-up in the first half and the game clinching interception in the final minute to stop the Hornet’s air raid attack.

Tharp is a dual sport athlete at BC, as he is also a member of the baseball team. Tharpe has seen action all around the infield and in the outfield as a utility player, as well as a right handed pitcher for the Eagles, mainly out of the bullpen.

Tharp and the Eagles will be back in action at Randolph-Macon on Friday March 5, at 7p.m.
