BC Sports Recap 11/21
November 23, 2021
Bridgewater, Va. – Bridgewater College winter sports took center stage this week as both basketball teams picked up a win and will have one more game before Thanksgiving break in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
Men’s Basketball
The Eagles basketball team opened up their week on Thursday night as they hosted undefeated Penn. State Mont Alto.
The Nittany Lions took an early lead in the first half; leading by as much as six before Coach Enright took a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Eagles went on a run to finish the half in front, 32-30.
The second half was all BC as the Eagles outscored the Nittany Lions 47-28. Senior Andy Pack got going with 17 of his 22 points in the second half to take the win 79-58.
The men’s team hosted another Penn State as Harrisburg came to Nininger Hall on Saturday.
The Eagles struggled offensively and were not able to get going on the offensive end for much of the game, as the 2-3 zone proved to be too much. BC shot 19.2% from beyond the arc in a 64-84 loss.
The men will play the front end of a doubleheader on Tuesday, Nov. 23. They host Marymount at 4 p.m.
Women’s Basketball
The BC women’s basketball team made the four-hour road trip to Virginia Wesleyan to take on the Marlins in their ODAC opener.
The Eagles were in search of their first victory of the young season and were able to do so on the back of sophomore Jaden Alsberry.
BC got out in front 17-11 after the opening quarter and never looked back as they led 41-27 at the break. The third quarter was where the Eagles started to put the nails in the coffin as they outscored the Marlins 21-5 en route to a 77-54 win.
Alsberry tallied her second double-double on the short season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Erika Nettles added 15 points and seven rebounds. The Eagles still struggled in the turnovers department as they turned the ball over 23 times.
The Eagles will be back in action on Nov. 23 in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Nininger hall as they host Gallaudet at 6:30 p.m.
