Bridgewater, Va.- Actress and Filmmaker Olivia Wilde, who appeared in the Television drama “Thirteen” and on Broadway, directs her first big film “Don’t Worry Darling” starring herself, Harry Styles, Chris Pine and Florence Pugh.

“Don’t Worry Darling” is set in the 1950s and follows main characters, Jack and Alice, who live in a perfect, idealized town and community. All the wives are stay-at-home while the husbands leave for work every day for a top-secret project.

At first, Alice loves and enjoys her life until she starts to notice some evil things below the surface and starts to question what is going on around her, leading her to some insane discoveries.

With fans commenting on how the film has a similar vibe to the popular Netflix show “Black Mirror” and is similar to this season’s latest episodes, Wilde explained the meaning of the plot and themes in an interview with Variety.

“I was looking for a way to tell a story about what happens when someone is willing to sacrifice a system that serves them in order to do the right thing,” Wilde says. “Science fiction has a long history in film of allowing political issues to be spoken through entertaining narratives, and that is what I am trying to do.”

Towards the middle and end of the movie, we start to see a backstory about Alice and Jack’s life before they were living in this perfect world that they have now. Not only does the truth start to unfold for the viewers, but also for Alice herself when she finds out she’s been living a lie and her sweet husband Jack has been in on it.

“This can show the disenfranchised world of white men on the internet,” said Wilde. “I have a sick fascination with cults.”

One of my personal favorite things about the movie is the 50s and 60s fashion and lifestyle. Once further in the movie, that aspect disappears as the truth is revealed, but that is what really messes with your head.

Not only are people drawn to the movie because of One Direction’s Harry Styles, but also the drama that comes behind all of it.

There are rumors of Wilde and Styles dating, so of course that would raise tensions with Florence Pugh, since she is playing Style’s love interest in the film. There are also rumors of Chris Pine and Styles not getting along, so it drives everyone to believe that behind the scenes on this film was chaotic.

“I personally loved the film,” said senior Nia Phillips. “Not just because of Harry Styles, but because I love movies that leave you thinking for days and wondering: is any of this real?”

If you are a fan of Black Mirror and want to see a movie that truly messes with your head and leaves you thinking, I recommend seeing “Don’t Worry Darling” while it is still in theaters. Wilde created a truly terrifying masterpiece.
