Bridgewater Eagles Athletics

Bridgewater, Va.- Both the Bridgewater men’s and women’s teams won their meets this past Friday, Jan. 20. The men’s team defeated Hampden-Sydney by a score of 160-80, while the women’s team defeated Sweet Briar 158-86 and Hollins 196-13. 

Men’s Swimming

Sophomores Ean Helmiger and Eric Wilbur, along with first-years Ben Beaudoin and Kris Schultz, started it off for the Eagles and won the 400-meter medley relay with a time of 4:21, 20 seconds ahead of the Tigers who came in second place. 

First-years Adrea Cibrario and Jose Urdaneta placed first and second respectively in the 400-meter individual medley. Cibrario placed first finishing with a time of 4:48. 

Schultz and Helminger also placed first and second respectively in the 200-meter freestyle. Schultz took first place with a time of 2:05.

Junior Jack Cataneo placed first in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:05. Junior Luke Wintersgill, sophomore Eric Wilbur and first-year Gavin Sengler all took first, second, and third place finishes in the 100-meter breaststroke. 

The Eagles did not stop there, as first-year Alberty McNaul placed first in the 200-meter butterfly by winning by just under a second.

Cibrario also gained another win in the 100-meter freestyle for the Eagles as well as another win in the 200-meter freestyle with junior Thomas Rose, first-year Nate Herman and Cataneo. 

The Eagles are back in action on Feb. 8 at the ODAC Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. 

Women’s Swim

Juniors Isabelle Bauer and Katie Yoder, along with sophomores Eve Umberger and Lexi Roberts, got things started for the Eagles with a first place finish in the 400-meter medley relay with a time of 4:52.

Bauer did not stop there, as she went on to win first place in the 100-meter backstroke, with juniors Kate Tolone and Katie Roach finishing second and third respectively.

Bauer also picked up a first place finish in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:03.

Roberts attained two more wins for the night, swimming 1:12 in the 100-meter butterfly, followed by a win in the 200-meter freestyle relay with Roach, sophomore Maddy Gundler, and junior Katelyn Wiglesworth.

Wiglesworth also picked up more first place finishes on the night in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:22, and the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:27.

The Eagles are back in action on Feb. 8 at the ODAC Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.
