Bridgewater, Va.- The Eagles dominated their weekend on the road, winning both games in a doubleheader versus Ferrum College 11-0 and 8-3.

Game One

The Eagles wasted no time in their game against Ferrum on Saturday afternoon. Graduate student Torie Shifflett connected with the ball in her first at-bat sending it to right-center field. Fellow graduate student Sarah Wimer sailed the ball to left field, bringing Shifflett in for the Eagle’s first point.

First-year Andrea Savage singled the ball up the middle of the field, sending sophomore Morgan Lucas to home plate for the second point of the inning for Bridgewater. The Eagle’s defense held the panthers scoreless in the bottom of the first inning.

The second and third innings left both teams empty-handed, but the fourth inning brought momentum for the Eagles. First-year Jordan Wise took advantage of an error made by Ferrum and got herself to first.

A single from first-year Kaelyn Ramsey sent Wise to home plate for a point, as well as sending sophomore Hannah Mahan home for another point. Ramsey later claimed another point for the Eagles off an error by Ferrum, and Shifflett followed right after her.

Bridgewater held the panthers scoreless again in the bottom of the fourth inning, leaving the score at 6-0 in favor of the Eagles.

Bridgewater came out hot in the top of the fifth inning, starting off with a connection to the left side from first-year McKenna Mueller. Mahan hit a homer to bring herself and Mueller in for another two points for the Eagles.

Lucas responded to Mahan’s homer with a home run herself to bring in Wimer, Ramsey and herself for three more points on the day for Bridgewater. The Eagle’s defense shut down the Panthers at the bottom of the fifth, securing mercy rule for this game at an end score of 11-0.

Game Two

Bridgewater started off the second game strong with a single to the right side from senior Brooklynn Fridley. Fridley stole second base then scored on the next at-bat off a single from Wimer up the middle.

The Eagle’s defense held the panthers scoreless in the bottom of the first inning. The second inning left both teams empty-handed.

The third inning was unsuccessful for the Eagles, but the Panthers found their first success of the day. Ferrum would connect with the ball to hit a home run in the bottom of the third inning bringing two panthers into home plate.

Bridgewater responded quickly, and Savage connected with a pitch to send the ball to right field and bring home junior Peyton Gregory and junior Jazmyne Smith. The Eagles held Ferrum scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, leaving the score 3-2 in favor of the Eagles.

The Eagles would not slow down in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Smith rocketed a ball over the wall for a homer to bring in Lucas, Wimer and Shifflett. Bridgewater was locked in a shut out with the Panthers in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The sixth inning was quick and left both teams scoreless. In the seventh inning, Smith claimed her second homer of the day to put the Eagles up 8-2.

Ferrum would not back down and secured one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game closed out 8-3 for the Eagle’s win.
