Bridgewater, Va.- “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal” is a three-episode series that tells the true story about the South Carolinian Murdaugh family, detailing how they came to power and avoided trouble with the law. The documentary also covers the suspicious deaths of family and associates close to them.

Netflix released the documentary at the height of the Murdaugh trials. The trial of Alex Murdaugh, an infamous lawyer in South Carolina, resulted in a guilty verdict of the murder of his wife and son.

‘I really like this new series Netflix put out about something that has been gotten a lot of attention in the news recently,” said junior Grant Nyland. “It was really interesting to see all that happened in the Murdaugh trials.”

The Murdaughs were able to avoid the law for ages due to their affiliation with the justice system in South Carolina. “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal” explains how this came to an end, and explores the theme of small town corruption.

“It is just crazy to see how people are able to do what they want and not get away with it. This series does a good job in showing that,” said junior Colby Smith.

Following the trial of Alex Murdaugh, an all-counts guilty verdict sentences him to life in prison.
