Mass in Stone Chapel
-
The entrance to Stone Chapel held the sign of where and when the Mass was being held. Catholic Campus Ministry, CCM, works closely with the James Madison University CCM, and hosts one Mass a semester in Stone Chapel every year.
-
In Catholicism, the holy altar holds the Holy Eucharist and the Word of the Lord. In modern Catholicism, the priest faces the congregation during the Transubstantiation and the Word.
-
The gifts of the host and wine during the Eucharist, which will be transubstantiated into the Body and Blood of Christ, are presented during the offertory hymn. The gifts reflect Jesus’ gifts of his flesh and blood in the Gospels of Mark, Matthew, and Luke.
-
Mo Keating, the Bridgewater College CCM student leader, class of 2025, sits with Julie Trist, class of 2028. Together, they prepare for Mass.
-
The new CCM priest is Father Charles Mbazzi. His vestment reflects the Liturgical Season of Ordinary Time.
-
Austin Farinholt, JMU’s Director of Campus Ministry, stands at the podium where the Old Testament reading, the psalm, the New Testament epistle, and the Gospel acclamation is declared. The priest often says the Homily, which is how the priest connects the readings with modern day life.
-
Professor Skip Burzumato, a sociology professor at Bridgewater College, attended the Mass. He is also the CCM advisor for Bridgewater College.
-
The Carter Center for Music was the former Church of the Brethren before being donated to Bridgewater College as the center for music. Stone Chapel, the host of the Mass, is on the main floor of the Carter Center.
