BRIDGEWATER, Va – The hours of the KCC leave students frustrated as there are very few campus food options from the hours of 3-5 p.m. Since the KCC is closed between 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., students and athletes may be hungry with limited food options, except for what they have in their rooms.
Some students may not have any food in their room, so they have to resort to driving to the grocery store or to a fast food restaurant to fulfill their hunger. Another issue is that not all students have a vehicle on campus, so Smitty’s is their only option
Since the removal of BCBucks, students now have to use their own money to purchase items from Smitty’s, which can be overpriced. However, a simple solution could be installed to fix this issue for the betterment of Bridgewater College students.
An alternative option that may be a better solution is opening a to-go bar. Teenagers and young adults have a fast metabolism and oftentimes get hungry throughout the day, especially after having team workouts and practice.
This to-go bar would consist of a sandwich station and a snack bar, which would be a great investment for the students and athletes here at Bridgewater College.
Similar to the deli bar, the only difference would be the sandwiches are pre-made. Snacks like Doritos, Goldfish, Cheez-its, granola bars, etc. would also be provided.
Students would now have the privilege of stopping by the KCC and grabbing a quick sandwich or snack of their choice to keep them energized until dinner time, or while they do homework or other tasks.
Fortunately, for the staff and employee members at the KCC, they will only need to stock it once a day prior to these hours. It is a simple and quick grab and go station that only requires minimum help from the staff.
There would not be any open tables for students to dine at, hence the name “to-go bar.” Chefs and staff members will be taking this time to prepare dinner for the students, clean tables and sweep the floor like they normally would.
Having a to-go bar on campus that is quick and easy for students to fulfill their hunger and get calories, carbs and protein in their nutrition will keep students energized and satisfied.
It would be very beneficial for the students, who may be too busy, tired or unable to sit down and enjoy a full meal. This to-go bar keeps students and athletes on the go by not taking too much time out of their already busy schedule.
Overall, it is a win-win for the students who have the privilege of having a convenient to-go bar on campus and for the staff who do not have to work it.
