BRIDGEWATER, Va – The 2025 season is much-anticipated for the Bridgewater baseball team. Aside from the new and improved roster, the program is welcoming the 125 Facility Project.
The 125 Project is focused on creating more of a “stadium experience” for athletes as well as its fans. It will include additions such as a brick masonry backstop, home and visitor side patio, improved spectator seating and a net backstop accompanied by a cable system.
The most anticipated addition of the 125 Project is the Championship Plaza. Placed right at the front entrance, this plaza will be home to the Wall of Championship Teams. Here is where teams of the past will be honored for their accomplishments.
The development was officially underway this past October. Great progress has been made, even after having to wrestle with some cold temperatures and snow the past few weeks. The project is anticipated to be completed just in time for the 2025 season which starts Feb 15.
Just over a decade ago, the baseball program saw additions of new and improved dugouts as well as a hitting facility. Project 125 looks to build upon one of the top facilities in the ODAC already.
Head Coach Ben Spotts is optimistic about what this project will bring to the team as well as the college.
“As we approached the baseball program’s 125th year of baseball at BC, this was a good way to celebrate and recognize the long and successful history of our program by improving around the bleachers and dugouts,” Sports said. “It was my goal to give the baseball field a stadium feel to continue to put our facility as some of the best in Division III Baseball.”
In terms of goals, Spotts touched on the impacts on the players as well as the fans. “The first goal was to give our players first class facilities that are great to play in and can continue to give our players the best environment to train and improve as players,” Spotts said. Second was to give our fans a great gameday experience with these improvements, one where it is enjoyable to watch a game.”
“I am very excited about having a comfortable seat to sit in! Such an improvement from carrying in a lawn chair or sitting on a bleacher seat,” Joyce Grove, program donor and fan, said. “The stadium seats with back support will be a real help, especially for seniors.”
This year is an exciting time for Bridgewater baseball even without the renovations. The team was busy this off season, as they were in the transfer portal and added key pieces to the already talented group.
The Eagles, with an upgraded roster and facility, look to achieve their first ODAC title since 2014.
