Bridgewater, Va. – Bridgewater College’s clubs come in all shapes and sizes with many different purposes. Lend a Paw is an animal advocacy group that promotes kindness towards animals and educates their members about different animal welfare issues.

“It is important for everyone to respect animals because they were here before us. They are the ones we have to look over to make sure they are all safe. Animals are precious and deserve the best,” said club president Katy Mattox.

Lend a Paw typically holds meetings twice a month, either on Thursdays or Wednesdays. The club also has occasional informative sessions held with the professors of the biology department at Bridgewater College.

Visits to various sanctuaries, such as a wildlife sanctuary or a farm sanctuary, are a part of Lend a Paw’s club activities. Donation drives where the proceeds go to local animal shelters can also be expected as a direct way to support the animals.

Lend a Paw has many activities to participate in. The club has a cutest pet contest and an event that makes dog treats to donate to the SPCA.

Similar to many other aspects of life, Covid-19 has had an impact on the club. They will have more zoom meetings instead of in person meetings to keep the members safe. However, Lend a Paw does hope to continue having in person meetings while following all Covid regulations and guidelines.
