Bridgewater, Va. – Overlook Produce and Farm Adventures located in Mt Crawford, Va rung in the Spring season with their grand reopening on April 1.

“Since last year we’ve closed it in a little more to make it more protected from the weather, while still maintaining that open atmosphere,” said Joseph Ulmer, owner.

In addition to weatherproofing, construction of an adjoining bakery and deli are underway at Overlook. Both are slated to open in mid-May of this year.

“With the bakery and deli opening, we hope to be open year-round because up until this point we’ve always operated seasonally,” said Ulmer. “Currently, we get a lot of local baked goods in  and make some of our own in our kitchen, but nothing to what we are hoping to do with a bakery right next door.”

Overlook is a one-stop-shop for meat and poultry, fresh produce, baked goods, canned goods and a greenhouse full of an assortment of plants from succulents to orchids.

“It’s one of my favorite places for fresh flowers in the area,” said senior Nadia Valle. “Not only is their greenhouse beautiful, but their apple cider donuts in the fall are also to die for.”

Keeping a food market fully stocked is no easy feat considering the seasonality of certain products, but rest assured the Ulmers seek out the best crop when it cannot come from their own land.

“We always have to have a wide selection of produce, but not everything you see here is in-season,” said Ulmer. “If it’s not in the area, we always try to get produce from the east coast if possible because it’s the freshest you can get.”
