Bridgewater, Va.- Team Europe cruised to victory with a score of 16.5 to 11.5 in the 44th Ryder Cup that took place at Marco Simone Golf Club from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.
Team Europe was able to get out to an early 6.5 to 1.5 lead on day one of the Ryder Cup. Rory Mclroy, Matthew Fitzpatirck, Viktor Hovland and Jon Rahm all won their matches with ease. Justin Rose, on the last match of the day against Max Homa and Wydnam Clark, came up with a huge putt on the last hole to tie Homa and Clark to keep the lead for team Europe.
“Team Europe dominated in fashion on day one of the Ryder Cup, they for sure came to play,” said senior Clay Lawrence. “It was great to watch. I was not expecting them to come out and play like that.”
On day two at the Ryder Cup, team Europe continued to show their dominance, extending their lead in the top 10.5 to 5.5. Although team USA showed some heart by winning three of the four ball matches, they were still down and it would take a lot in order for them to come back and win.
“Team Europe continued to show their dominance on day two of the Ryder Cup, although team USA made somewhat of a comeback, it was not enough,” senior Colby Smith. “Team Europe were in the zone and they could not be stopped by anyone.”
On day three of the Ryder cup, Europe was able to hold off another late push from team USA by winning 16.5 to 11.5. Tommy Fleetwood won his match against Rickie Fowler that sealed the victory for Team Europe.
The next Ryder Cup between team USA and team Europe will be held at Bethpage Black in New York in September 2025.
