BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Silver Lake Bed and Breakfast in Dayton, under new management in 2026, provides an alternative for BC parents visiting campus.
“The bed and breakfast has a great reputation in the Dayton area and I am excited to continue to build upon that reputation,” said Julianne Myer, the new manager of the bed and breakfast which opened in 2015.
Silver Lake Bed and Breakfast is the closest bed and breakfast to Bridgewater college, making easy access for parents to visit their students.
“We’re eight minutes away from Bridgewater, and, even though Bridgewater isn’t a huge area, we are also ten minutes away from JMU, which provides parents with a way to get out and enjoy their visit,” said Myer.
The bed and breakfast offers a complimentary, handmade breakfast served by Myer every morning.
“I try to accommodate each person to the best of my ability,” Myer said. “They tell me their dietary needs before they arrive and I can meet those needs.”
Myer makes a different breakfast every morning for families or individuals which she said most bed and breakfasts don’t do.
“We want this to feel like home and I think a simple handmade breakfast each morning can do just that’” Myer said. ”This is what I believe separates us from others in the area.”
Myer said that breakfast may not be a big deal, but guests seem to think it is.
“I’ve heard from some of my guests that when they stay here, other places don’t make a new breakfast each morning,” Myer said. “They kind of just reuse other breakfast.”
The bed and breakfast has five rooms that guests can choose from, with different prices that range from $110 per night to $145 per night.

“My experience with the rooms was great,” Abigail Russell, a visitor at the bed and breakfast, said. “Everything was folded nicely when my husband and I went in there and it just felt extremely homey for us.”
The bed and breakfast has an event center attached to it, which guests may also rent.
“The event center is very nice,” Myer said. “We do everything from baby showers to weddings and everything in-between.”
While Myer is still new to the bed and breakfast, she has a background in wedding planning, which she believes can be helpful for the bed and breakfast.
“I’ve worked on wedding venues my entire career, so I’m pretty familiar with the ins and outs of the business,” Myer said. “I’ve worked at two other venues and I can translate skills I learned there to the event center.”
The event center is an old dairy farm, which has been converted to a space where Myer believes her ideas can flourish.
“I have ideas on some designs to improve the already beautiful event center,” she said. “I think families will really like them.”
With over 300 reviews on Expedia, the Bed and Breakfast has a 9.8 rating out of 10.
“You can book through our own website, but you can also book through third-party sites, such as Expedia or Hotels.com,” Myer said.
To find the event center, individuals need to go to the website and book through there.
“To book for the event center, the website works, but people can also call directly and I will work something out for them,” Myer said.
