Bridgewater College, VA – The BC women’s golf team finished fourth in the Denison Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 4.

The Eagles shot 339 the first day of the tournament with senior Heather Donnelly leading the team with a team best  score of 82.

On the second day of the tournament, the wet and nasty conditions did not phase the Eagles. The team improved by nine strokes and ended up shooting a 330.

First-year Sophia Martone shot a 78 to help improve the Eagles position in the tournament. Martone’s two day total for the tournament was a 161 in her first ever collegiate tournament.

Donnelly ran into some trouble on hole number ten. Donelly triple bogeyed on the par five, but continued to push through and capitalize on the later holes throughout the tournament.

“This was our first tournament of the season and considering we haven’t had much practice time, I think we did well,” said Donnelly. “The first day was perfect weather for golf — mid 70’s and sunny. The second day was cold and rainy. However, most of the team improved on their scores the second day, so I don’t think the rain bothered us. It was great getting back into the swing of things.”

Emory University won the Denison Invitational by scoring a solid team total of 590. The Eagles were able to beat Allegheny and move into that fourth spot of the tournament. The Eagles will be back in action on September, 20 at their home course — Lakeview Golf Club.
