Getting Technical Assistance: Meet The IT Center and Gurus

Steven Roscoe II, Staff Writer

Bridgewater, Va.- Students and faculty can receive technical help from the IT Center in Bowman 200 and the DSG Gurus in FLC 113.

As we use technology on a daily basis for academic purposes and personal use, complications tend to be part of the process. On campus, Bridgewater College has two resources for all technical questions, issues, and concerns: The Information Technology Center and the Digital Scholarship Gurus.

Students and faculty can go to the IT Center for any computer issues, WiFi connection problems, projector difficulties, and any other related complications.

“The IT Center keeps the college running smoothly and functioning in a way that assists student learning,” said junior IT student technician Chris Pate.

Although appointments are preferred, the IT Center does welcome walk-in visits from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They can be contacted by phone at: 540-828-HELP (x4357) or by email at: [email protected]

Throughout the semester, students are required to use numerous digital platforms to create content for class. Some students run into problems from lack of experience with the programs or just need extra explanation on how to use select features to their benefit.

The main goal of the gurus is to help students with application functionality who have minimum experience in project development and structural design. The gurus are well versed in WordPress, Microsoft, Adobe, graphic design and content creation.

“It’s rewarding to see people come in hopeless and by the time they leave, be on track to accomplishing their [media-related] goals,” said junior Anton Kopti, a DSG team member.

More information on the Digital Scholarship Gurus can be found on their website and on their social media accounts under @gurusatbc.
